Erwin Wurm - Buy or sell works

27 July 1954, Bruck an der Mur (Austria)

Erwin Wurm is one of Austria's most famous contemporary artists. His work ranges from sculpture and drawings to video installations and photography.

Erwin Wurm studied in Vienna at the Academy of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts from 1979–1982.

Wurm's 'one-minute sculptures' earned him international renown.  These works added a performative aspect to sculpture and thus an interactive element. The canon of sculptural tools is formally broadened with photography and film to record constellations of actor, object and space. Wurm's one-minute sculptures are ultimately a layering of conceptual instruction for action, performance, and documentation. Sculpture gains a temporal dimension. The observer must give up his passive role, is integrated directly into the art and thus becomes a part of the work.

From 2002 to 2010 Erwin Wurm taught at the Institute for Visual and Media Arts of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He represented Austria at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and 2017.
